In the 1970s if you walked into a department store, Radioshack, or anyplace that sold stereo equipment, the Jbl L100 Century speakers were the most expensive, top shelf , best sounding, and most stylish speakers that were sold. They were the Cadillac of speakers, the teens all wanted a set so that they could blast their Led Zeppelin records as loud as possible, and the adults wanted them, because they were stylish and eye-catching in their living rooms. The L100s go by many names."The King of Loudspeakers." "The Most Iconic Speaker of all time." They were made famous by the classic Maxell tape ad campaign where a man gets blown away by the sound coming out of his speakers. Most people who grew up in the 70s would see these and recognize them as Jbl speakers by the orange waffle grilles. The L100s were ripped off by almost every speaker maker in the 70s and 80s, just about every pair of big box speakers with 12 inch woofers were trying to replicate the Jbl L100s, but none were quite as good. The L100s were famous for a big, loud and thunderous sound that was great for rock'n roll and jazz, considering how popular rock'n roll was in the 1970s, it is no surprise that these are the best-selling Jbl stereo speakers of all time. The Jbl L100 Century speakers truly were the speaker of the century.
